Brian and I share a passion for basketball, though Brian is slightly more passionate. One of my favorite stories is about how he became so passionate. Brian tells the story of him being maybe 7 or 8 at the time. Mr. Mahfoud was watching Syracuse in a 1987 championship game. When the game ended Brian remembers Mr. Mahfoud being devastated. "He just turned the tv off and said 'One day youll understand'".

Fast forward to today and we can see that same passion in Brian. Not just for the sport, but a passion for the university, the city of Syracuse and the people of Syracuse. It's almost as if Mr. Mahfoud, a USPS retiree and National Guard member, was making a larger statement about commitment that went beyond just that game or sport. And its something we see in his son in his commitment to his family, his friends, his work and yes to the 2003 National Champions, Syracuse Orange.

May these and other wonderful memories of Mr. Mahfoud help in this period of mourning.

Sincerest condolences,
Mark Samuels

Brian and Cynthia, my deepest sympathies to you.

I met Mr. Mahfoud a couple of times and he was a very pleasant man. Brian has shared some great stories about his dad, which paint a picture of a man with a sense of humor. Here are just to name a few of the things that I can recall Brian saying:

"As my dad says, the lake effect has diarrhea"

"My dad had trumps book, he threw that in the trash" (2017)

"I remember when I was prob 9, & my parents & me came down to NYC for the wknd. We stayed at a hotel in times sq. But one day, we got lost on the train, & ended up in bk. I remember exactly where.....we came outside at Flatbush & Fulton, at the 2 nevins stop. As soon as we walked to the top of the stairs & was outside, my dad was like no, turn around, we're in bk, we're not supposed to be here, run down the stairs"

"my parents started going to that church......they didn't know the priest was gay tho......when my dad found out, he was confused"

I hope these quotes can cheer you up.

Best Regards,

Antoine Charles

The kindness of Mr. Mahmoud lives on through the people he shaped during his time with us on this plane, he lives on through us, the people he inspired and touched.

Bobbie and Richie,
Iā€™m so sorry for your loss. Ronnie was fun, I enjoyed our talks. We talked about music and his love for Reba Mcentire. So funny. Great guy. Thoughts and prayers with you all. šŸ™šŸ¼ā¤ļø
