Emily Millbyer
June 25, 1945 - June 1, 2019
Emily Millbyer, long-time resident of Syracuse, NY, passed away Saturday, June 1st, at her home in Laguna Hills, CA at the age of 73.

Emily received an Associates Degree from Sue Bennett College in KY, then attended Asbury University in Wilmore, KY where she met her husband of 50 years, Rev. Terry Millbyer. They pastored together for the United Methodist Church in several cities in Upstate New York.

Emily was a very active pastor’s wife. She directed choirs, participated in vocal ensembles, worship teams, and hand-bell choirs, directed vacation bible schools, women’s groups, Sunday schools, and mentored young women. She loved being surrounded by children and enjoyed sharing her beautiful voice in solo performances.

Emily also loved hosting events at her home and organizing picnics, pot lucks and outreach. She was always willing to share what she had with those in need.

Emily is preceded in death by her husband, Terry Millbyer, by her father, Reuel Buchanan, and by her brother, John Buchanan. She is survived by her children, Christine (Terry) Douglas and Mark Buchanan; by her mother, Sue Buchanan; by her sister, Susan Buchanan; by grandsons, Owen and Cole Douglas; by her sister-in-laws, Mary (Tony) DiMura and Susie Buchanan; by her nieces, Sara (Kyle) Kleinecke, Megan (Brian) Tortorelli, and Becky Holt and by her nephew, David (Stephanie) Buchanan.

Calling Hours will be held Monday, June 10th, 5 to 7pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse. Services will be Tuesday at 11 am at the funeral home, followed by burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Her children arise and call her blessed
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done
Proverbs 31: 28-31
