Obituary for William A. Gilberti

William A. Gilberti
December 29, 1950 - December 9, 2020
William A. Gilberti, Eastwood, passed away after a brief illness on December 9, 2020 at the age of 69.
A gentle soul and loving provider, Will was the true definition of what a husband, father and grandfather should be. Will’s humorous wit will be remembered by all. Miraculously surviving cancer, Will and his family cherished every moment living life to the fullest. Will enjoyed summers on Sandy Pond, boating and fishing with his grandchildren, and being in the company of his beloved friends and neighbors.
Will grew up with a strong work ethic. Much of his youth was spent in the kitchen at the family’s Corner House restaurant. Long weekend hours didn’t leave much time for hanging out with high school friends but the friendships he did develop lasted his whole life. He really enjoyed catching up with those friends at his 50th class reunion. In his 20’s he went to work at New Process Gear –a tough and demanding job, not a glorious job but it was what he did to provide for his family.
He also had a strong faith, which helped tremendously when, in 2001, he faced the diagnosis of 2 incurable, aggressive cancers simultaneously. His faith was placed in his doctors and that the Lord would grant him the strength to survive, which he did – beating all odds. He traveled to Arkansas for his treatments where he found a whole community of new and very close friendships.
He did what he could to help his community. He donated to several charities, both locally and in other parts of the country. In the winter you would find him snow blowing sidewalks up and down the street and around the corner. Helping others was a way of life.
Born December 29, 1950 in Syracuse, he was a proud graduate of Henninger High School (1969) and retiree of New Venture Gear. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Sue; his daughter Diane (Jason) Recor; son Joseph (Kayla Gallipeau); grandchildren, Jake Recor and Julia Recor; brother Michael (Patricia) Gilberti; sister Denise(James) DeSantis; sister-in-law Nancy Gilberti; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Tony and Joyce Gilberti, and his brother Anthony Gilberti III, who he loved dearly. Today, as we grieve, we are comforted to know that Will and Anthony are back together, joking and laughing like kids again as they watch over us.
