William “Bill” Dietrich Gebhart
August 17, 2019
William D. Gebhart, 72, passed away peacefully Saturday at his home with his family by his side. He was an Eastwood High School graduate of the class of 1965. Bill proudly served in the Air Force as an Airman 1C during Vietnam. He was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church. Bill had worked at Syracuse Aquarium, Prestolite, Lamson Co., Walts Record Shop and before retiring he spent 25 years working at O.C.R.R.A. He was best known for his love of music since his early teenage years. As a teen, he played drums in the band The Casuals, later in life he played in the band Golden Gate and then played drums for 35 years with The Mickey Vendetti Band. After retirement, his drumming didn’t stop. He played in a trio that entertained seniors. And as a member of the St. Stephen Choir, he periodically played drums during worship. His faith was the pillars of his existence. Through difficult times and through times of celebration, Bill’s faith was steadfast. He valued his family and the times spent with his children and grandchildren. Bill built unbreakable bonds with everyone who came across his path and they became friends for life.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Renee A. Duciaume; his daughter, Sara Gebhart (Matthew); his sons, Christopher Gebhart (Francesca), David Williams; his grandchildren, Justin Hughes, Arianna Bessette, Autumn Gebhart, Kylei Gebhart, Carter Gebhart and Sawyer Gebhart and his great-granddaughter, Anayla Cruz. Calling hours will be Friday 4p.m. to 7p.m. at Carter Funeral Home, Inc. 1604 Grant Blvd. Syracuse. A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 873 Dewitt St. Syracuse N.Y. Burial with military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
William was dedicated to funding St. Jude’s and Golisano Children’s Hospital for the research of cancer.

So sorry to hear of Bill's passing and deep condolences to his wife Renee. I worked with Bill for many years at OCRRA and was blessed by his friendliness and sense of humor. We shared many jokes together. Bill also had a deep faith in Jesus Christ and I know he is with Him now. He will be sorely missed.

I had never got a chance to meet Bill, but the way Renee would talk about him at work and the light in her eyes told me everything I needed to know about him. He's the type of person we need more of in this world, loving, caring, funny, kind. The kind of person that you notice their presence is gone in a room full of people because he brought that much life! I am so thankful Bill showed Renee the best 13 years of her life because she too is an amazing woman and deserves the world! My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time.

All my love,
