Walter “Daniel” Wakker, 93, of Lyncourt passed away on Friday after a brief illness. Daniel was raised in Hoboken, NJ and had resided in the Syracuse area for over 70 years. During World War II, he served with the US Marine Corps. in China. For 67 years he enjoyed their summer home on Cross Lake.
Daniel cherished time with his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a lifelong aviation enthusiast and model builder, a member of the Erwin Methodist Church, the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and the Lyncourt Seniors. Daniel retired from the engineering department of VA Medical Center, and was the co-founder of ABC Refrigeration. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Dorothy, in 2018. Survivors include his sons, Lowell, Neal (Candy), Bruce (Kitty) and Paul Wakker; daughters, Wendy (Tom) Larkin and Laurie (Rich) Cecconi; grandchildren, Brian (Jocelyn) Larkin, Kristen (Mike) Better, Erika (Gerry) Anderson, Danielle (Peter) Yango, Mallory (Josh) Little, Dr. Stephen (Emer) Cecconi, Dr. John (Rachael) Cecconi and Ryan Wakker; great-grandchildren; Emily and Matthew Better, Skylar and Kylie Anderson, Avery Yango, Lily and Everly Larkin, Daniel and Claire Little, Sadie Cecconi and his cousin, Tina Apprich. Calling hours will be Monday, June 3rd, from 11:00 am to 1 pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse followed by services at 1 pm. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Crouse Hospital and Dr. Zirath and Dr. Shahnawaz for their care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Smiletrain.org.
