Obituary for Sister Rosaline (Suzanne) Walters, OSF

Sister Rosaline (Suzanne) Walters, OSF
Oct. 12, 1938 - May 27, 2020
Sister Rosaline Walters, age 81, went peacefully home to God on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at the Franciscan Villa. Sister was born in Syracuse, New York, the only child of Edwin and Rosemond Walters. Sister was a member of St. James Parish and graduated from St. Vincent de Paul High School. She had for some time felt a call to religious life and in 1957 she entered the Sisters of St. Francis where she labored in the vineyard of the Lord of 62 years. During those years she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Medaille College and a Master’s Degree in Administration from St. Bonaventure University. She served actively in the ministries of teaching, administration and pastoral care until illness required her retirement.
Sister began teaching in various Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Syracuse and Albany. Her hard work and talent in the field of education was soon recognized and she was moved into administration where she served as Principal for many years, first at Holy Family in Fairmount, NY, then at St. Joseph, Camden, NJ and finally at Blessed Sacrament, Margate, NJ. In 2007, Sister took on a new challenge, serving devotedly as Pastoral Minister at parishes in Haddonfield and Wildwood, NJ. In her new ministry, Sister tended to the needs of the poor, elderly, and ill with great love and compassion.
Sister Rosaline will be remembered for having a great love of God and those He entrusted to her care. She was a diligent, self-sacrificing worker, and a loyal and generous friend, one who was always sensitive to the needs of others and magnanimous in her willingness to help. Sister enjoyed the Jersey Shore and sports immensely. She was an avid Notre Dame fan.
Sister was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her second cousin, Barbara Bellinger, and the Sisters of St. Francis.
In compliance with the safety restriction placed upon us due to the Covid pandemic, private funeral services for Sister Rosaline will be held at the Franciscan Villa at a time and date not yet determined.
