Obituary for Sister M. Gratia Eallonardo, OSF

Sister M. Gratia (Pauline) Eallonardo, OSF
August 2, 1929 – February 25, 2020
Sister Gratia, age 90, went home to God on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the Franciscan Villa. She was born in Syracuse, NY to Carmen Eallonardo and Theresa Actis Eallonardo. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Hamilton, NY and graduated from The Convent School in Syracuse, NY. Sister entered religious life in 1949 and remained a Sister of St. Francis for 70 years. She received a BS Degree from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY and a Master Degree from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY.
Sister began her ministry of teaching at Assumption School in Syracuse, NY. She continued in this labor of love for twenty-five years teaching in various Catholic Elementary Schools in the Dioceses of Syracuse, Albany, Newark, and Trenton. She then assumed an administrative position and became Director of Religious Education at St. Joseph School in Camillus, NY, Assumption Church, Syracuse, NY, and St. Joseph School in Hoboken, NJ.
When her teaching ministry ended Sister Gratia continued to lovingly serve her Franciscan Community and the people of God. Sister worked for many years in clerical positions at St. Joseph Hospital in Syracuse and also in Senior Services for Catholic Charities.
Sister Gratia will be remembered for her deep spirituality, respectful politeness, kindly disposition, charity of speech and her sweet, amiable smile.
Sister was pre-deceased by her parents. She is survived by her sister, Carmen (George) Fitzgerald, brothers Charles (Euphie) Eallonardo, Norman (Theresa) Eallonardo, Fred (Dinah) Eallonardo and John (Ann) Eallonardo. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and the Sisters of St. Francis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 4:00 pm at the Franciscan Villa Chapel, 6900 Buckley Road, Syracuse, NY. Calling hours will be from 2:00 pm to 3:45 pm in the Villa Chapel. A farewell service will be held at 8:30 am Tuesday, March 3, 2020, also at the Villa Chapel. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
