Shirley J. (Davis) Merritt, 87, of Eastwood passed away on Sunday surrounded by her four daughters. She was employed as a waitress at the Pastime Athletic Club where she worked with family and friends for more than 48 years. Shirley enjoyed volunteering at the Eastwood Senior Center where she was a member of the Sunshine group, attending events and playing cards weekly. She proudly enjoyed her 87th birthday celebration with her very large family and friends. Shirley had a love for her home in Syracuse as well as her winters spent in Cocoa Beach, Florida, enjoyed sending and receiving greeting cards. Her act of kindness and caregiving will always be remembered by all that knew her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. in 2006 and grandson, Scott J. Genninger in 2016. Shirley is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Carol and John Marra of East Syracuse, Robin and Les Genninger of Lakeland, FL., Cindy George and Gary Beaubiah Jr. of Syracuse and Lisa and Charlie Morgan of Central Square; by her sister, Barb Russo.; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great- grandchildren. Calling hours will be Thursday 3pm to 7pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd. Services will be 10 a.m Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Shirley’s honor to the P.E.A.C.E, Inc.
