Shiela A. Liegel, 81, of Eastwood, passed away on Tuesday. Shiela was born in Syracuse, and attended St. Rose College in Albany NY, where she received a bachelor’s degree and where she was a novitiate with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
After leaving the order, she moved back to Syracuse, where she had a long career as an educator and administrator in both the Syracuse City School District and the Catholic School System in the Roman Diocese of Syracuse.
Shiela was a life-long fan of Broadway musicals, “Jeopardy!”, and Notre Dame football.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Florence Tighe, and by her husband, Raymond Liegel. Survivors include her daughter, Meghan Liegel, her son-in-law, Lucas Swaine; her son, Daniel Liegel, daughter-in-law, Kelly Fitts, and granddaughter, Lily Liegel. A calling hour will be Saturday, July 10th, from 9 to 10 am at All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Ave, Syracuse, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 am and burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Contributions can be made in her honor to Francis House.
