Robert A. Gullotta, 90, of Syracuse passed away on Friday peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Survivors include his wife, of 65 years, Dorothy (Kirchgessner); his children, Kathy (Frank) Santillo, Paul (Wendy) Gullotta, Diane (Rick) Mohorter, Steve (Amy) Gullotta; his grandchildren, Michael (Yitong) Santillo, Christopher (Jacki) Santillo, Rachel (Brendan) Callaghan, Alaina, Kellianne and Mary Beth Mohorter, Matthew and Megan Gullotta: great-grandchildren Magnolia Santillo and Evelyn Santillo; and many other family members and close friends.
“Bobby G” lived on the “Nort”side of Syracuse his entire life, and enjoyed winters on Manasota Key in Florida and vacations on Red Horse Lake in Canada, where he had many enthusiastic sailboat passengers. Bob spent 34 years as a Research Chemist, as a result, we all knew the difference between organic and inorganic substances. He was a very talented furniture maker. Bob replicated detailed museum pieces, which included many in the Chippendale style. In his 33 years of retirement, he also spent hours carving hundreds of ducks that were gifted to his family for birthdays and special occasions. He was an avid reader willing to discuss and recommend his favorite books. Bob actively played tennis into his mid 80s believing, as with all things in life, it was always better to be a participant than a spectator. He enjoyed cooking traditional Italian dishes, however you could always find him at an all you can eat buffet. Bob was also a wine maker and shared his vintages at holidays and his grandchildren’s weddings.
Most of all, Bob was a gifted storyteller, combining wisdom, humor and long lasting narrative. His entertaining (and numbered) stories will live on through his entire audience.
Bob was an adored husband, dad, brother-in-law, uncle, grandpa and friend. Above all, he was a classic, and in no danger of ever being forgotten. We thank God for the gift of his life.
Private services were held for the family and entombment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
