Obituary for Ray G. Haller

Ray G. Haller
January 17, 1945 - November 14, 2021
Ray G. Haller, 76, lifelong resident of Syracuse’s North Side, passed away on Sunday. Ray was born, to the late, Kathryn and Carlton Haller. He attended Grant Jr. High and North High School. In 1964, he joined the US Army, and served his tour at Fort Polk, LA, and graduated from the NCO Academy, in 1966, as a Tech SGT E5. For many years, he worked construction, bartended at local pubs, and he retired after 25 years from Charles Haller Enterprises. Ray enjoyed meeting his North Side Buddies for coffee at Tops and shooting pool at the Brick House and Salt City Billiards. He took up archery, held many belts in Tae Kwon Do, and was an avid reader. He enjoyed target shooting and Canadian hunting trips with his lifelong best friend, Dave Malagisi. Ray was very proud of his involvement with the local AA community. He was a member of the Syracuse Pistol Club, the NRA and was a DEC Master Hunter Education Instructor. A special thank you to Christa and all the staff at the VA Medical Center, B7, for their care and compassion. Ray is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Lynne Haller. Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 21, from 1 to 3 pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse. Services, with military honors, will be at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Golisano Children's Hospital and/or Susan B. Komen Cancer Fund.
