Phillip E. Musgrave, 71, of Fayetteville passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, with his beloved wife, Mary by his side. Phil was born in Trinidad & Tobago. He attended Tranquility Boys’ Intermediate High School and earned the rank of Lance Corporal in the Trinidad Cadet Force. He immigrated to the United States at the age of sixteen. While attending Ottawa University, Phil met his future wife, Mary, where they both graduated with their B.A.s. He earned his M.A. in Sociology, was a Ph.D. candidate at Syracuse University and was a member of Phi Beta Delta International Society of Honors.
Phil had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and a fondness of wild birds. He was an avid gardener, who took great pride in his home and its landscape. Along with Mary, he enjoyed various outdoor activities, including tennis and nature walks throughout the area. He was incredibly proud of his heritage along with its Soca and Steel Pan music. Survivors include his wife, of 47 years, Mary; his son, Damani Phillip; his brothers, Winston, Steven, Dennis and Andrew and several uncles, aunts and cousins. Calling hours will be Monday, Mar. 11th, from 5 to 7 pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse. Reflection on Phil’s Life will be shared on Tuesday at 10 am at the funeral home, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt. Online condolences at CarterFuneralHome.com.
