Obituary for Peter J. Oliver

Peter J. Oliver
October 19, 1925 - December 27, 2020
Peter “Pete” Oliver, 95, Syracuse, passed away after a short illness. He was born in Colonie, NY and grew up in Schenectady. He attended Nott Terrace High School before serving in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following military service, he apprenticed and then worked as a journeyman photo engraver in Schenectady. After moving to Syracuse, he worked for many years as a photo engraver at WECO Graphic Arts. He was a lifelong union member. He loved automobiles and lavished care and attention on every car he ever owned. When younger, he enjoyed playing golf with friends. More recently, he liked following SU Sports and watching Yankees games. He feasted on pie for breakfast every morning. His greatest joy, however, always came from spending time with his family. He was especially proud of his six grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, of 73 years, Sarah “Sally”; his sons, Donald (Leslie), James (Marcia Crosby) and Martin; his daughter, Joy (Paul) Fiorini, and his grandchildren, Kristin, Jacob, Nicole, David, Adam and Nathan. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Linda (Martin). His family will celebrate his life at a private service on New Year’s Day followed by burial at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland on January 2nd.
