Oliver “Jimmy” Potter

Oliver “Jimmy” Potter, 80, of Syracuse passed away on Thursday. Jim was born in Oswego, NY, to the late Oliver J. and the Ruth A. (Wood) Potter, and resided in the Syracuse area for most of his life. At the age of seventeen, Jim enlisted and served with the US Marine Corps. He worked as a roofer for many years. As an avid gardener, he would often contribute articles to the Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener. Survivors include his daughters, Gayle (David) Burrows and Catherine (Chad) Warring; granddaughter, Autumn Rose Warring; his brother, Dickey (Ronnie) and his sister, Jeanie Emery and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his former wife, Rosemary Butler; by his companion, Truby Miner; by his sisters, Gayle Klock and Susie Everson and by brothers, Sonny, Joey, Bobby and Peter. As per Jim’s request, there will be no services. In gratitude of their wonderful service, the family askes that you consider contributions, in Jimmy’s honor, to the Community Living Center - VA Medical Center, 800 Irving Ave, Syracuse, NY 13210.
