Obituary for Nancy Anne Curtis (Burgdoff)

Nancy A. Curtis of Munnsville shed her worldly wings and donned her angel wings on November 20, 2021, surrounded in spirit by so many friends and family. Nancy was born to George E. Burgdoff and Alice V. Ostrander on September 21, 1938, in Oneida NY and lived most of her life in Munnsville. She was married to Clyde T. Curtis and had seven children of her own. Nancy spent her life caring for her family and everyone that became her family just by being in her presence. Though she did not have much in the way of worldly things, she made sure that no one walked away from her without a full belly from her amazing cookies and pickles, and some warmth from her homemade hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters or blankets. Her beautiful hands created love in so many ways for friends, family and people that had yet to become one of those things. Nancy loved the country life, being outdoors, experiencing the beauty of nature, taking care of “her” animals, riding her 4-wheeler and going for rides around the countryside. To the unexpected end, Nancy lived her life on her own terms, never giving in to what the world around her thought was right but enjoying life and doing all that she could to make sure that others did too. Before her retirement, Nancy worked at various jobs but gained yet another family working in the cafeteria at Stockbridge Valley CSD. Here she became “Ma” or “Gramma” to numerous others. She was pre-deceased by her companion Frank Uhlig; an infant daughter and a great grandson, John Stanley III. Nancy is survived by her children, Bonnie ( Jim Simonds) Curtis, Rick Curtis, Wendy ( Gary Reynolds) Curtis, Doug ( Sophia )Curtis , Mary Kampf, Marty (Darlene) Curtis, Niki ( (Frank Slawiak)Maiura , Barb ( Bob )Wesseldine, and Stevie (Tim) Guy brother and sister-in-law, Richmond (Rody) Burgdoff; her sister, Betty Helmer; her former sister-in-law, Rita Swiecczkowski; twenty grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; one great-great grandbaby and another on the way; her beloved nieces and nephews; cousins and her dearest friends. In keeping with her wishes, there will be a celebration of life to be held at the family’s convenience. Nancy never wanted to see anyone hurting, sad or mourning her so instead, please think of your fondest memories of her, something that made you laugh, and smile just as she is smiling down on all of us. Say or do something kind for someone in need and help to preserve her memory in that way. Her family would like to thank Erica Thursz-Rivest for her love and support, the caring nurses in Hamilton and the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, especially Nick, Kylie and Paul.
In lieu of flowers, Nancy would have loved it if you would consider a donation of hats, mittens, gloves, scarves or any other warm winter gear for kids in need at either Stockbridge Valley or Madison-Oneida BOCES.
