Michael “Mickey” Desimone Jr.

Michael Desimone Jr., 89, of Liverpool passed on Tuesday. He was a graduate of St. Vincent’s High School, where he loved to play baseball, basketball and football. Michael also attended Manlius Military School where he played football. He proudly served in the 174th Air National Guard. Mike owned and operated New Central Café and Desi’s Restaurant. After he sold the businesses, he worked for the Syracuse City School District, as an instructor, teaching bus safety to students. Mike was involved and coached Lyncourt Little League for many years. He was also active at St. Daniel Church, where he coached CYO basketball. Mike was an Eucharistic Minister at St. Daniel Church, where he was involved with prayer group and adoration. After retirement, Mike and his wife, Joan moved to Vero Beach, Florida where he became active with the social club and participated in bocce ball and shuffleboard leagues. He was an avid daily swimmer and bike rider. Mike enjoyed playing cards and taking cruises. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Emma (Toole) Desimone; a sister, Joan Pettengill; his daughter, Mary Desimone Carline and granddaughter, Gabrielle Schmitt. Mike is survived by his devoted wife, the former Joan Glessing; his children, Michael J. Desimone, Debra (Manny Perez) Campbell, Diane (Gary) Brisson, Jeffrey (Cathy) Desimone, Julie (Steve) DePaola, David Desimone and James (Kimberly) Desimone; Mike adored his nineteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be privately celebrated with military honors. Entombment will be in Assumption Cemetery. A special thank you to Monsignor Yennock, who tirelessly visited and prayed with Mike, and has been a special part of Mike’s life for over forty years.
