Obituary for Matthew C. "Matt" McGlynn

Matthew “Matt” McGlynn
August 8, 2022
Matthew “Matt” McGlynn, 52, of Westvale died peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Monday, surrounded by his wife and children, after a 17-year journey with brain cancer. He persevered through surgeries, long quiet recuperations, seizures, painful treatments, experimental drugs, and even a stroke — to catch as much time as possible with his family. One would hardly have known that he was sick as he never complained, instead, he shared his experiences and strategies with others in need.

First things first, the Rochester born McGlynn adored his beautiful wife, Joyce and their three remarkable children, Ella 18, Grace 16, and Ryan 9.

A master of communication, Matt worked in hospitality followed by a career in sales and marketing. He was a quick study with his wit and wisdom in his relationships with family, friends and business associates — as well as quick on his feet in all athletic endeavors. His first loves were soccer and basketball followed by lacrosse. Later, he passionately coached all of his children.

We don’t all get to be little brothers, but when we do, there is often a magic bestowed upon that child. This was the case with Matthew McGlynn who was born as the third son of Jean and Jack McGlynn of Skaneateles. He was brother to John (Carolyn) Naples Florida and Stephen (Lisa) of Skaneateles.

Being loyal to all family and friends, Matt treasured his In laws, the late Lawrence “Chief’ and Charlotte Jones of Binghamton; As well Joyce’s brothers and sister, Larry (Angela) of Huntington, Long Island, Rich (Nancy) of Ossining, and Charlene “Char” (Paul) Morabito of Conklin, NY.

Matt the youngest of 25 grandchildren was treasured by his many cousins, McGlynns, Loewenguths and Walthers (too many to name). He was beloved by his nieces and nephews, Patrick McGlynn, Kylie (Eric) Skoldberg and their sons, Max and Oliver; Cullen, Mae, Will and Anna, McGlynn; Kamryn and Konnor Manibusan; Trevor, Erin, Mackenzie, Olivia, Robert and Matthew Jones; Garrett Morabito, Erica (Vinny) Strabo; Dexter and Lillianna Strabo; Dominic and Gianna Morabito.

In lieu of calling hours and a traditional service, Matt’s wishes were to have a celebration of life. All are welcome from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, August13 at Jammer’s Sports Bar and Restaurant, 3535 Walters Road, Syracuse, NY 13209.
