Marie Summerwood

May 1, 1949 - January 17, 2019

The world has lost a wise woman, herbalist, bodyworker, singer/songwriter, author and teacher.

Marie was a vibrant, brilliant woman with an incredible catalog of talents. She loved, laughed and lived out loud with no apologies when showing up for herself, her friends and family and her community. She was taken by an incredibly aggressive cancer that roared into her body and extinguished her life in just a few months.

To further explain her life in a few paragraphs is impossible so we won't even try.
Suffice to say that there is a gaping hole in the fabric of our lives that will never be mended.

Marie is survived by her mother Flora Rose Johnson, four brothers and their families: Charles and Mary Lou Johnson, Richard and Maria Johnson, James and Robin Johnson and Joseph and Tracey Johnson. There are many nieces and nephews, cousins, and several children of the heart whose arrivals have delighted and enriched Marie's life. Her circle of sisters of the heart and close friends is international.

Marie will be waked on Saturday January 19th from 12-8 pm at the Syracuse Women's Information Center, 601 Allen Street, Syracuse, the herbalist in Marie prefers that flowers remain in their habitat so please bring only your loving presence to honor her memory.
Burial will be at Greensprings Natural Cemetery, Newfield NY on Tuesday 1/22 at 1 pm. Directions to the cemetery are available at www.naturalburial.org.

A celebration of Marie's life, 5/1/1949 – 1/17/2019 will be held on her 70th Birthday May 1, 2019 in Syracuse. Details will be announced at a later date.
