Obituary for Marianne "Mimi" MacDonald (Rieder)

Marianne “Mimi” (Rieder) MacDonald, age 81, of Wilson Pt. Rd. Canastota, NY, passed away on Saturday April 10, 2021. After a lengthy illness, she took her last breath in her home on Oneida Lake, her Happy Place, surrounded by the love of her family. Marianne came to the United States from Germany in 1956 with her mother, Alberta Johanna Harrssowitz (deceased); brother, Jerry (Claudia) Rieder of North Carolina, and resided in Oneida, NY. She married Allan MacDonald (deceased, 2012) and raised her family in Syracuse, NY. Marianne was an inspiring mother, teacher, friend and Mimi to four children and 7 grandchildren: Lori Garbinsky (MacDonald) of Minoa, NY, children, Zac and Cassie; Sharon (Andrew) Spencer (MacDonald) of Pittsford, NY, children, Liana, Amanda and Scott; Scott MacDonald of Brewerton, NY; Allana (Jim) Lazeroff (MacDonald) of Penfield, NY, children, Tyler and Jonathon. Marianne was blessed to share her later years with loving partner Harlan Moonen of Verona, NY.
Marianne had a kind and giving spirit which, she shared with the world in many ways. She shared her love of art as a docent at the Everson Museum. As a teachers’ aide she shared her passion for learning and knowledge with elementary school children in the ESM school district. As a mother, friend and neighbor, she joyfully shared her passion for nature, spirituality, quilting, gardening, yoga, cooking, and baking.
Marianne welcomed people into her life with open arms and an open heart. She volunteered her time and energy in many capacities: from spiritual and healing groups and leading Girl Scouts, to nourishing ailing friends with her healing cooking and beautiful homemade cards. She was truly an amazing woman who was loved by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
Family and close friends will celebrate her life in a private gathering. Contributions can be made in her name to Hospice of Central New York 990 7th North St. Liverpool, NY 13088.
