Louise M. (Napolitano) Epolito
July 3, 1935 - January 2, 2020
Louise M. Epolito, 84, of Lyncourt passed away from colon cancer on Thursday at Francis House. She was a native and life resident of Syracuse. Louise was a graduate of St. John’s Catholic Academy; was a lifelong communicant of St. Daniel Church, where she was a member of the Parish Council and the Wisdom People. Louise owned the Academy of Dance for more than 63 years. She opened her dance studio in 1955, teaching everything from ballet to belly dance; she started the Lyncourt Twirlettes in 1975 and hosted the only national baton twirling contest ever held in Syracuse. She was a charter member of the National Association of Dancers and Affiliated Artists and a past recipient of a Creative Artists Public Service Award. She was also a member and former Secretary at Syracuse Federation of Women, emeritus docent at the Everson Museum, Coordinator of Arts and Crafts Group, and an antique dealer.
Predeceased by her parents, Alphonse and Catherine Napolitano; by her brother, George Napolitano; by her ex-husbands, Edward Overman and William Epolito and by her stepson, Joseph Epolito.
Survivors include her daughter, Mona Shattell (Vivian Schutz) of Baltimore, MD; her son, David (Jamie) Epolito of Fulton; her sister, Mona (Daniel) Militello, her brother, Ralph Napolitano, and sister-in-law, Joyce Napolitano; two grandchildren, Anthony and Annabella Epolito; stepsons, William, John, Michael and Matthew Epolito, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate staff and volunteers at Francis House for the loving care that they gave Louise in her final days.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 9th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd. Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 12:10 pm at St. Daniel Church, 3004 Court Street, Syracuse, followed by a luncheon at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Francis House, 105 Michaels Avenue, Syracuse, NY.
