Lawrence G. Page of Syracuse, N.Y. died on September 9, 2022 at the age of 81 after a four year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Larry was born in 1940 to Donald and Helen Page of Brewerton, N.Y.. He was the oldest of three children. From a young age he enjoyed helping others, and was a good student and athlete eventually winning the Athlete of the Year award at Central Square High School.
Joan and Larry met in a math class at the beginning of their sophomore year at LeMoyne College in 1959. Joan fell in love with him, because he was so much fun to be around. Upon graduation with bachelors degrees in mathematics Larry followed Joan to the University of Kansas where they were teaching assistants, received masters degrees in mathematics, and along the way became engaged. They were married in 1964, began their careers, bought a house, and eventually had three children.
His family will remember Larry for many things. Joan recalled that at the start of the snow storm on the century in 1966 while Joan was giving birth to their first child in their apartment Larry asked Joan, “Do you think I should put the snow tires on the car?” His children will never forget how he hated to see any food wasted and would drink or eat most anything well past its sell by date regardless of how sour or rock hard it might be. But, most of all he will be remembered for his unending support of those he loved, those he knew, and anyone and everyone in need.
Larry had a rich and meaningful career as a teacher. He built the computer science program in the Syracuse School District, and also taught at Onondaga Community College where he won The Chancellors Award from the State of New York at the age of 78 years old. But, his most satisfying moments occurred when he saw his former students become successful.
Religion was very important to Larry. He was actively involved in his church as a lector and Eucharistic Minister, and led religious study groups. He also enjoyed playing basketball, exercising, dancing, going out to dinner with friends, playing board games, attending plays and concerts, and wine tasting in the Finger Lakes.
Larry was preceded in death by parents Helen and Donald, brother in-law Joe, and daughter in-law Jackie. He was survived by wife Joan, children Mike (Jackie), Eileen (Tommy), and Scott (Hollis), sisters Pam (Joe) and Sherry, nieces and nephews Shelley (Jeff), Stephanie (Mike), Kevin (Julie), Chris (Maria), and Shauna (Dave).
A memorial mass will be held at All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Ave, Syracuse, NY at 11:30 am on November 3, 2022. The family will be greeting guests after the service with light refreshments in the church. Live streaming of the service is available at allsaintssyracuse.org.
