January 9, 2021
June M. Allen, 93, passed away quietly and peacefully Saturday morning, She was born in Syracuse on June 19th, 1927 to George and Bernice Noldan. June graduated from North High School in 1945, and met her husband Ben while working in Washington, D.C. shortly after World War II. They returned to the Syracuse area and married on November 28th, 1946, raising nine children thereafter. June lived in Bridgeport, NY most of her life. June worked for twelve years at the Minoa Nursing Home. A devoted SU basketball fan, she was also a Board Member of the original Syracuse Flyers Wheelchair Sports, Inc. while her son John played on the basketball team. June and her husband enjoyed fishing whenever they had the opportunity, traveling to various lakes, streams and rivers. She loved gardening, garage sales, serious shopping, caring for the birds in her yard, and eating at Jim’s Fish Fry. June’s many grandchildren, however, brought her the greatest joy! She loved them with all her heart! June was preceded in death by her husband Ben, son John, and great- granddaughter Addison M. Jones. She is survived by her daughters Kathy ( James) Dattler of Liverpool, Patricia( Gerald) Sessions of Brewerton, Sherri ( Vincent) Lumia of Syracuse, Pamela ( William) Easterly of Brewerton, Deborah Houghtaling of Georgia, and Sandra (Robert) Lester of Michigan; her sons Robert (Mary) of Virginia and Richard(Barbara) of Bridgeport, twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-five great- grandchildren and two great- great- grandchildren.
The family wishes to express a special thank-you to all of her caregivers at the Loretto Cunningham Nursing Home in Syracuse. Donations may be made to the Loretto Foundation, 700 E. Brighton Ave, Syracuse, NY 13205 or www.lorettocny.org/foundation in June’s memory. The foundation helps support the needs of the elderly in Central New York. Private services will be at the Carter Funeral Home in Syracuse, with internment in Woodlawn Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at later date.
