Julius “Phil” Klein
February 5, 1941 - April 21, 2021
Julius P. Klein, 80, of North Syracuse passed away on Wednesday. Phil was born in Syracuse, to the late Julius and Virginia Klein and was raised on the city’s Northside, where he attended Assumption Academy. He was a proud, longtime member of the Local 317 Teamsters Union. For his entire career, Phil worked in transportation, starting with delivering milk to homes and retiring from Unifirst. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, especially on Black Lake with his friends Carl Gamore and Joe Selini, and cherished a lifelong friendship with Al Morgan. He was predeceased by his wife, Emma Jane, by stepson, Roger Bonn, by his siblings, Frances Klein, Gloria Couch, Richard and Robert Klein, Barbara McKinnon, Clarissa Jacura and Marilyn O’Connor. Survivors include his children, James (Daniela) based in Warsaw, Poland, John of North Carolina, Jeanette Klein and Jeannine Gonzales of Syracuse; his stepdaughter, Maggie Shively of Michigan, and his grandchildren, Brie, Alex, Michael, Ashley, Courtney, Emily, Ethan, Ellie, Julia, Jeff, Jake, Jason, Rachel, Kevin, Hadassah and Gabriella; multiple great-grandchildren; his sister, Ramona (Archie) Greene of Liverpool; his godson, Sheldon (Holly) O’Connor and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be Thursday, Apr. 29th, from 4 to 6 pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse. Services will be Friday, 10 am at the funeral home, and entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
