Obituary for Judith A. "Judy" Barry (Gale)

Judith “Judy” (Gale) Barry
January 23, 2020
Judith A. Barry,79, of Syracuse passed away peacefully on Thursday. She was a graduate of Colonie Central High School then went on to receive her BA from SUNY Oswego and MBA from Syracuse University. Judy worked as a social worker for Onondaga County for twenty years, the City of Syracuse for three years and Oswego County for ten years. She then became the office of University Art Curator at Syracuse University. She later worked for three years as an Administrative assistant at the Governor’s office in Albany. When her children were young, she served on the Altar Rosary Society and as a playground monitor at Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School in Syracuse. After she retired from work, she helped as a literacy volunteer with first generation immigrant children at CBA, working with Father Champlin’s Guardian Angel Society, and as a Docent at the Everson Museum

Judy was one of the most kind and wonderful women you could meet. She was a wonderful mother, wife and daughter who deeply loved her family and had a strong faith in God. Judy loved and revolved her hobbies around the fine arts including painting, music, literature and poetry. And with all lovers of fine arts, Judy loved to enjoy her hobbies with a nice cup of coffee and a wonderful glass or two of wine.

She is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Joseph V. in 2017.

Judith is survived by her four children, Beth (Kenneth) Bentz of Liverpool, Joseph (Songhui Han) Barry of Colorado Springs, Patrick (Carol) Barry of Ithaca, and Nicholas (Celeste) Barry of Honolulu HI; by her nine grandchildren, Julie, Rachel, Joseph, Johan, Nicholas, David, Neva, Blaise and China.

A Calling Hour will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 1340 Lancaster Ave, Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Online condolences at CarterFuneralHome.com.
