Joseph A. Spurchise 91, passed away peacefully Saturday at Bishop’s Rehabilitation and Nursing home, surrounded by his family. He was the son of, Angeline and Frank Spurchise. Joseph was a native and life resident of Syracuse. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church (the former St. James). Joseph was fond of listening to Christian Radio that helped strengthen his faith. He read and often quoted scripture from the Bible to his family and friends. In his earlier career he owned a television and radio repair shop in Mattydale. He then went on to work at Carrier Corporation where he worked as an inspector for 28 years before retiring in 1988. Joseph took pride in his vegetable garden and grapevines and generously shared the abundance of produce with his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and spent many years at his camp that he built in Inlet, N.Y Joseph was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Carmen, Sam, and Frank; his sisters, Anna Lanzafame, Mary Pollicino and Angie Massara. He is survived by his brother, Louis and three generations of nieces and nephews. Joseph’s niece would like to express heartfelt gratitude and thanks to his longtime friend and neighbor Ed for the many years of help and looking in on him. His family would also like to give a special thanks to Michelle, Terri and Shianna and all who cared for Joseph on D North at the Bishop Rehabilitation Nursing home. Calling hours will be Friday 4p.m. to 7p.m. at Carter Funeral Home, Inc. 1604 Grant Blvd. Syracuse. A service will be held at 8:15a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. John the Baptist/Holy Trinity Church, 406 Court St. Syracuse N.Y. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.
