Obituary for Joan A. Golley

Joan A. Golley
February 1, 1933 - March 17, 2021
Joan A. Golley, 88, lifelong resident of Clay passed peacefully on Wednesday, in her sleep, and joined her beloved husband Abe, where it is believed they promptly went Square Dancing. She had taken voice lessons from the age of twelve, went to Hartwick College to study voice, and had lent her strong, soprano voice to many singing groups including Sweet Adelines and Master's Touch. She was proudest of singing in the back-up chorus for Kenny Rogers when he came to Syracuse. Joan was formerly employed as a secretary with North Syracuse Central Schools, the Town of Clay Assessor's Office, and she retired from OCM Boces. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and directed the choir for many years, as well as many other church activities.
She was predeceased by her husband, Erwin "Abe" Golley and by her parents, Reverend John and Alice Kisselburgh.
Survivors include her daughter, Ann (Jim) Vail of Cleveland, NY; her son, John Golley of Central Square, NY; granddaughters, Kathryn (Paul) Anderson of Cicero, NY and Alison (Antonio) Labbe of Solvay, NY; two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and her beloved dog, Smithy.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Mar. 23rd, from 4 to 6 pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse. Private burial will take place in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in Mom's name to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clay or to the Humane Association of CNY.
