Joan Ann Desimone, 87, went home to meet the Lord on September 6, 2021. Joan was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend to many. She was considered one of life’s treasures! Joan was a graduate of St. Vincent’s High School. After marrying the love of her life, she raised eight children and cherished every moment with them. Joan said it was the greatest joy and blessing to have had the opportunity to stay home with her children and experience their growth into adulthood. She continued to share that love and support with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joan was very involved at St. Daniel Church throughout the years. In her later years, she and her husband Mike, moved to Vero Beach, Florida where she volunteered at St. Helen’s Church. She taught religious education to students with special needs. Joan was also a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound and nursing home. She was very involved and socially active within the Vista Royale Community. Joan was an avid card player and loved Bingo.
Joan is predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Michael Desimone Jr., daughter Mary Carline, granddaughter Gabrielle Schmitt, son-in-law Ronald Campbell. She is also predeceased by her siblings William, John (Jack), and Charles (Chick) Glessing, Helen Robischon, and Elizabeth Murphy.
Joan is survived by her devoted children, Michael J. Desimone, Debra Campbell (Manny Perez), Diane Brisson (Gary), Jeffrey Desimone (Cathy), Julie DePaola (Steve), David Desimone, James Desimone (Kimberly), her sister, Mary Grace Dessormeau (Robert) and many nieces and nephews.
Joan will be truly missed by her eighteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. She touched their lives with love and laughter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 14th, at 10 am at St. Margaret’s Church, Mattydale, NY. Joan’s family kindly request that masks be worn. The Mass will be recorded and streamed via Carter Funeral Home Syracuse’s Facebook page. Entombment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Rose of Lima Building Fund, 409 S. Main Street, Syracuse, NY 13212.
