Obituary for Jerry Thomas "Corky" Sanford

Jerry Thomas Sanford

Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.
Isaiah 57:2

On June 13, 2023, Jerry passed peacefully after a long illness. Jerry Thomas Sanford was born on October 4, 1946 in Martin, Tennessee. He worked as a skilled carpenter throughout much of his life and enjoyed riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles and playing billiards in his prime. He was creative and loved a good joke. He achieved his builders license at the height of his career. He enjoyed reading and quiet time at home, sitting outside in a simple lawn chair, and watching the day go by as he smoked pork on his BBQ smoker from sun-up till sun-down – a tradition deep-rooted in his early days in Southern Tennessee.

He was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife, Carol Sanford (Young) and parents, Robert “Buster” and Margaret Sanford. He is survived by his sons, Mark Sanford of Ft. Myers, FL., Jeffrey Sanford of Lansing, MI., and Paul (Jennifer) Schumacher of North Syracuse, NY.; a daughter, Ann (Daniel) Canastra of Cicero, NY, and his brothers, Scott (Moira) Sanford of Grove City, OH. Jerry enjoyed being a grandfather to Carter, Quentin, Madeline, Abigail, and Cody. He had a family nickname of “Corky” given to him by his uncle Larry “Donnie” Connell, who adored him.

Services will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Jerry to – Perry Food Bank, PO Box 783, Perry, MI 48872.
