Jerry Griffin, 87, of Syracuse passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side. Jerry was born in Co. Kerry, Ireland to the late, Martin and Bridget (Flynn) Griffin and settled in Syracuse in 1961. Before moving to the United States, Jerry worked with the forestry, replenishing trees. In Syracuse, Jerry worked for many years as a self-employed contractor. His life interests included restoring his antique boat, coaching and watching hockey, and he cherished time fishing with his family on Wolfe Island. In recent years, his greatest joy came from time spent with his beloved grandchildren. He was a longtime communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church. He was predeceased by his wife, of 55 years, JoAnn and by his son, Marty. Survivors include his children, Brigid (David) Lindsley, Patrick (Trisha), Maura (Bobby) Dirnhofer, Sheila (Leo) Trasente and Sean; his daughter-in-law, Mary Carole; grandchildren, Abby, Connor, Emily, Katie, Aidan, Jeremiah, Andy, Matt, Samantha, Dino; brother, Murt (Mary Lou) and several nieces, nephews and cousins residing in the States and in Ireland. Jerry was also predeceased by his siblings, Paddy, Mike, Jim, Thomas, Danny, Johnny, Martin, Helen, Joan and Bridie.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Aug. 17th, from 4 to 7 pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 am in St. Vincent de Paul Church and burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
