Obituary for Jean Marie Graumenz (Schwenn)

Jean Marie (Schwenn) Graumenz
November 9, 2021
Jean Marie Graumenz on Tuesday, at the age of 85, became our heavenly guardian angel and put Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease behind her. She passed peacefully after being a resident at The Cottage at Garden Grove in Cicero for nearly two years following a stroke in December 2019. Jean’s life began on January 25, 1936 on the North Side of Syracuse where she grew up with her three sisters, Mary Helen Cavalero, Karen Boisseau and Janet “Pudgy” Ethen and her parents, Armella and Norbert Schwenn. She spoke fondly of her memories on the North Side including being class president when she attended Grant Jr. High, and of time spent at the Gymnasium. Jean graduated from North High in Syracuse. Jean was married to Leonard Alletzhauser and they had one son, Leonard. After her husband’s death, Jean was blessed to be introduced by mutual friends to her husband of 55 years, Barry. After marrying, Barry adopted Lenny, and then together they welcomed daughters Cathy and Kristi to complete their family. Barry and Jean were inseparable and if you knew either, you knew both. They spent their entire marriage in a beautiful home on Oneida Lake that always had another project to complete, or another update to be done. It is a place that calls us all home for its beauty and for the loving and peaceful feelings that it brings. Jean loved her home and everything that she filled it with: “things”, people and fur babies. The neighborly ties that were made in “the Grove” were life long and have extended many decades in some cases. For these friendships, we will all be forever grateful. Over the years Jean participated in various hobbies: church groups, bowling, crocheting, gardening, chaperoning school events, and playing the organ. She held various positions at “the Telephone Company”, Webb Lumber Company, Election Day Poles, the Central Square Health Center. The friendships that Jean formed at these jobs were as important to Jean as the jobs themselves. Jean leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband Barry, son Lenny and his companion, Jeanette Sheppard, daughter, Cathy and her husband, Ralph “Ed” Kelley, and daughter, Kristi and her husband Terry Kelley. She leaves behind her most beloved grandchildren, Jamie and April Graumenz, Courtney (fiancé Joey Keleher) and Lindsey Kelley and Lexi, Nick and Sarah Kelley. In addition she leaves behind her ever loving and supportive sister, Janet (John) Ethen, brother in law, Gary Boisseau, sister in law Darlene Kempert (Gerhard), brother in law Neal Graumenz (Sharon) and many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her parents, and her sisters Mary Helen and Karen. Jean loved her family dearly and felt blessed for every moment that she was able to spend with them. The family would like to thank the staff at The Cottage at Garden Grove for the love and devotion that they shared with Jean. They truly became her second family when we were not able to be there with her and for that we are forever grateful. Friends may call Saturday 11am to 1pm with a memorial service to follow at Carter Funeral Home, Inc. 1604 Grant Blvd. Syracuse, NY 13208.Contributions may be made in Jean’s honor to
