Janet M. (Kammar) Awad

Janet M. Awad, 80, of Westvale passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday. Janet was born on June 21, 1939 in Syracuse, NY to the late Abraham and Emily Kammar. She was a graduate of Eastwood High School and later attended Beauty School in New York City. On June 21, 1959, she married the love of her life Edward Awad, who passed away on September 9, 2014. Together they raised five loving, supportive children, Edward (Shirley), Anne Marie (Paul) LaRose, Christine Wachna, Michaele (Jim) Ferretti and Elizabeth (Jim) Gunnip. Together they were blessed with 10 grandchildren, Paul, Josh, Amanda, Alexis, Michael, Lindsay, Dominique, Jordan, Julia and Gabrielle. They were the recipients of her unconditional love and many life lessons. She is also survived by her sisters, Hilda (James) Khammar and Jewell Gabriel and by her brother, Charles (Mary) Kammar and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Janet was predeceased by her brother-in-law Charles Gabriel. Janet was a loving wife, mother, gramma and sister. Janet was a strong believer in her faith, which allowed her to win her 20 year battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Janet enjoyed family trips, visiting the casinos, cooking Middle Eastern dishes, shopping, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, playing the piano and was known to always be dressed to the nines. She was a lifelong member of Saint Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church where she participated in several church festivals. Janet retired from hairdressing after many years, working at Design One, The Addis Company, JC Penney’s and later maintained a hair salon in her home, where she built many friendships from her clientele. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 4 to 7 pm at St. Elias Orthodox Antiochian Orthodox Church, 4988 Onondaga Rd., Syracuse. Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 am at the church followed by burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
