Obituary for Helen Irene Lester

Helen I. Lester
September 28, 2021
Helen Irene Lester, previously of East Syracuse, passed away quietly and peacefully in Hampton, Virginia Tuesday evening September 28, 2021. Her beloved daughters, MaryBeth and Laurie were at her side holding her hand.

Born in Pompey, New York in 1932, Helen graduated from high school at age sixteen and Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing shortly thereafter. While working at Saint Joseph’s she married and spent the next twenty years traveling throughout Europe and the United States as a military wife while simultaneously working at various capacities in the nursing field.

She returned to the Syracuse area and Saint Joseph’s in the early eighties and graduated in the first class of the New York State Nurse Practitioner Program. She retired from her practice in 2004 to devote more time to her family and golf game.

Helens greatest joys were her family, her love of God, being a military wife, and caring for her patients. She loved to dress up in the latest fashions and carried herself with style and grace. She loved to travel and took trips to Ireland, Spain, and Italy where she toured the Vatican.

Helen is survived by her daughters MaryBeth, (David), Napier of Hampton, Virginia, Laurie (Ron), Darr, of Broadway, Virginia, son Robert, (Sandy), Lester of Lennon, Michigan, sister Dorothy Burghardt of Lafayette, New York, five grandchildren, Amber Saenz, Ryan Lester, Sam Fedorowicz, Amanda Lester, CJ Fedorowicz, Austin Wilson, and a great grandson, Owen Saenz, and numerous nieces and nephews and their children, all of who she loved very much.

A Mass will be celebrated Monday, October 11th , at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 7386 Academy St., Pompey, NY, with interment to follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family request that you personally practice an act of love by a random act of kindness in her honor.
