Obituary for George J. Stratton

George J. Stratton
November 11, 1933 - February 8, 2021
George J. Stratton, 87, of Syracuse, passed quickly and peacefully on Monday, February 8th to join his bride Ann, of 66 years, and his son, Michael in the presence of the Lord. He was born on Veterans Day, November 11, 1933, to the late George and Fay “Fanny” Stratton. He graduated from Solvay H.S. in 1953 and immediately joined the USMC, where he proudly served his country during the Korean War, until 1956. On July 4, 1955, he married his sweetheart, Ann F. Fazio. He was a career truck driver. He retired from Georgia-Pacific in 1995, and enjoyed going to his camp on Butterfield Lake, in Redwood NY with his wife and family. He enjoyed fishing and working on his camp, but mostly enjoyed sitting around a table with family and friends telling stories, playing cards and laughing, with his wife, who was ever by his side. He was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Pompei Catholic Church in Syracuse. In 2000, he and his bride became snowbirds, splitting time between Syracuse and Brooksville, FL.
He is survived by his son, Daniel J. (Lisa) Stratton of East Syracuse; by granddaughters, Danielle E. (Davin) Stratton and Madeline C. Stratton of East Syracuse; grandsons, Harrison J. of East Syracuse and Hunter E. of Jacksonville, FL; great-grandchildren, Dominic and Derrick, and by many nieces and nephews. His brother, Michael J. Stratton, had predeceased him.
Calling hours will be Monday, Feb. 15th, from 2 to 4 pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in the Onondaga Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
