Fred “Fred Sox” Knaul, 88, of Lyncourt passed away on Thursday. Fred was a native and life resident of the Syracuse area, and had retired from Syracuse University. Although his greatest joy in life came from the time he was able to spend with his cherished family, Fred’s other interests included following the Red Sox, Syracuse University Sports, golfing, playing pitch and corn hole along with simply enjoying a cold beer while at the lake. He was a communicant of St. Daniel Church, a lifetime member of the Pastime Athletic Club, and a coach for many youth sports. He was predeceased by his loving wife Elaine of 47 years. Over the years, they were able to enjoy many travel adventures together. Survivors include his sons, Ted (Jean) and John (Chrissy); his grandchildren, AJ (Cat), Matt (Steph), Tim, Kristin and Nikki; his great-grandchildren, Lucas, Avary, Odinn and Orion; his brother, Bill and his nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Sunday, May 1st, from 3 to 6 pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 am in St. Daniel Church, Lyncourt. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY.
