Peggy Sopchak, 98, of Lyncourt, died peacefully at home on Sunday. Peggy was born in Oswego, NY to the late Michael and Eva Gustina, and was the last surviving of their seven children. Following her retirement from Syracuse Saving Bank, she was a founding member of the Marian Center and was an active volunteer, especially at Francis House. She enjoyed sports; played softball and bowled into her sixties and golfed into her nineties. She was a passionate Scrabble player, playing into the last week of her life. Her devotion to Mother Mary and daily Mass brought her peace, joy and comfort throughout her life. Peggy was known for her open heart and welcoming home, not just for family, but for all.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bill “Soapy” and her son-in-law, Ron Kime. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Sopchak, Chris (Rob) Porter, Cathy Simone and Theresa (Mike) Rogers; sons, Bill (Rita), John (Wendy) and Steve (Roxanne) Sopchak; her fifteen grandchildren and her seven great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Thursday, June 13th, from 4 to 7 pm at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 12:10 pm at St. Daniel Church and entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
