Betty Sterzer, 104 years old, lifetime resident of Syracuse’s Northside passed away on Friday at the Iroquois Nursing Center. Betty was the daughter of George E. Sr. and Helen C. (Mannion) Sterzer. She was predeceased by her parents and three siblings; Helen B. Thornton, Robert (Jack) Sterzer and George E. Sterzer Jr. Miss Sterzer maintained a long career in the field of education. She was employed by Southwood/Jamesville-Dewitt Central School District as an elementary teacher and reading coordinator for her teaching career. She was active in reading organizations at the local, state and international level. She was also a strong supporter of the Syracuse University athletic program and the Syracuse Mets. Betty is survived by her three nieces and a nephew; Kathleen Paolini of Brewerton, Roberta Prusinowski of Florida, Sandra Hough of East Syracuse and John Thornton of Syracuse, along with 8 grand nieces and nephews;7 great-grand nieces and nephews. Viewing will be Thursday 11am to 1pm at the Carter Funeral Home, Inc. 1604 Grant Blvd. with a Catholic service to follow. Betty requested in lieu of floral arrangements, donations be made to Francis House or one’s favorite charity.
