Abednego Johnson lived a life of service. From the time he was a young man back in his home country of Liberia, he devoted his life to serving God and learning how to teach and spread the word of God.

A long-time resident of Syracuse, NY, Mr. Johnson passed away from advanced heart disease on September 16, 2021, after battling the disease for almost ten years.

Abednego was born on August 16, 1970, in the small West African country of Liberia.

He was a loving husband and a devoted father. He is survived by his mother, His wife Annie Johnson his seven children, Deconte Washington, Frances Johnson, Adde Johnson, Mai Johnson, Abednego Johnson Jr., Tom Johnson, and Janelle Johnson, four grandchildren and three foster children he took care of back in Liberia.

In his last days, Abednego served as a pastor at Syracuse’s Hope Community Lutheran Church. His family takes comfort in knowing he spent his last days doing what he loved most, which is serving God.

Calling hours will be Friday, Oct. 8th, from 7 to 10 pm at Hope Community Lutheran Church, 620 W. Genesee St., Syracuse. Services will be Saturday at the church at 9 am. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
